Vehicle Checks You Should Perform Before Your Long-Distance Relocation

When moving to a distant location, one must make sure to checklist the vehicle maintenance steps. Because if you do not do so, the vehicle might be out of order and you will not find help in the journey to your new location. Relocating is stressful enough and having a broken down truck or car with all your furniture and belongings on the side of the road is unimaginable. Of course this can prevented if you have the luxury to hire long distance movers but what if you needed to move yourself?

Some of the impotent things you must not ignore while checking your vehicle are oil check, battery test, tires and light inspections along with many others. Some important steps are discussed in detail below:

Checking Oil

If the engine is running dry it can cause your vehicle to stall without notice. Moving long distance is not a time where you would want this to occur, the car will stop on the spot and it can cause you more headaches in an already stressful environment. Habitually check the oil from time to time, whether it is a short drive or a distant one.

Battery Test

A fully charged battery is another point you must consider when planning for moving to a distant place. Check the battery properly to make sure everything is in place. Clean the terminals if you suspect any corrosion. Replace the battery if the battery charge is too poor for operating.

Air Filter Inspection

A clean air filter flow guarantees the smooth airflow of the vehicle’s engine. The smooth airflow proves better gas coverage on the road. Clean or replace the filter if it’s dark in color, but if the filter appears clean, you can use the same filter for your vehicle.

Check the Radiator’s Water

The radiator plays an essential role in cooling the engine, so there must be enough water in the radiator when planning the distance moving. You can check the radiator’s water level half an hour after your vehicle has been turned off. Check the radiator and refill it if there is less or no water to keep the vehicle cool when driving. Inhabitants of cold climates use anti-freezing agents for keeping the coolant liquid when temperature drops.

Looking over your lights

Working headlights are essential for safe driving during nights and checks are totally necessary if you have a long distance move coming up. You can check them with the help of one of your friends; one of you sits in the vehicle while the other keeps standing outside to check the functional working of tail lights, brake lights, emergency flashers, headlamps, and turn signals.

If you are willing to check them alone, park your car in front of some glass store and check all the functions while viewing in the reflection. If any of the lights are burned out, visit an automotive parts store to get those lights replaced with new ones.

Checking the car tire pressure

Tires must be roadworthy and safe in order to enjoy a smooth ride. Look over the tire pressure and the tread to prevent any flats or blowouts. Inspect for punctures and get any issues fixed before setting off on your journey. Your tires are the only thing in contact with the road so you want to make sure they are reliable. If you feel that the car is shaking or vibrating when you are driving, it is recommended to visit an automobile shop for tire rotation and balance management.

Check the wipers

The wiper helps keep a clear vision during the drive and must be checked in advance. There is nothing worse than driving in heavy rain with wipers that don’t do their job. Inspect for cracks and test the functionality, they are generally cheap to replace so don’t risk having bad wipers.
