'On a hill overlooking downtown St. Joseph, Missouri, the original three-story 1880s Italianate Mansion was built for a prominent grocer named George Kennard. In 1910, the house was purchased by Ernest E. Chase, owner of the Chase Candy Company who "invented" the famous "Cherry Mash" candy bar.' (information obtained from the official web site Museum Hill Bed & Breakfast)

Reported Findings and Experiences:

+ After taking some photographs outside, Brenda felt someone brush up against her arm just before she reentered the house. She felt this person followed her into the house and into the library. After this incident, several orbs were photographed in the library

+ 5 EVPs were recorded during the investigation however they were not very clear. 3 EVPs were recorded in the library just after Brenda felt someone come in from the outside with her. These EVPs are as follows: “Why Don’t You..The Door..Let Me Leave” then She's Designing It and “Go In Silence”. Another EVP was recorded in the kitchen “It’s Hot..Take Me Down With You and the other was recorded upstairs while Misty was doing her reading. The one upstairs sounds like a man saying “All Together..Okay”.

Psychic Readings:

May 8, 2010 (pre-investigation visit)

+ There were servants that scurried through the dining area and kitchen. You have several servants here. I’m picking up two little black ladies. Lots of activity. I feel there was a big open area upstairs at one time because I can feel them going up and down. I’m feeling there was a big outside porch that was part of the kitchen area with a stairway that went upstairs.

+The lady of the house always asked for a fresh egg and toast in the mornings. She had breathing problems. I am feeling a shortness of breath. She was kind of demanding. She wasn’t really rude but she was bossy. She wanted things done a certain way.

+ There is something upstairs in the attic. I’ll have to come back and do that.

June 26, 2010 (Night of Investigation)

+ It’s busier in here which is why you are not seeing and hearing them as much. But they are still here.

+ I’m feeling this small unfinished room was once a baby’s room. I’m feeling something young in there. My legs are very heavy.

+ I am feeling that there was someone handicapped who lived here. I don’t want to say stroke. (An EVP of a male voice was recorded here saying “All Together..Okay”).  An older gentleman.

+ There was somebody handicapped here, maybe that is why my legs felt heavy. I’m almost picking up the name Jeremiah. A male energy, handicapped, not very old.  I’m going to say he’s in his 30’s or was here in the 30’s. I can’t quite tell why he’s handicapped but I can feel him sitting here looking out the window. He liked to play puzzles. He had something kind of like polio, not polio but something like that. He also liked to play jacks or marbles, those were his two favorite things. He was kind of curled up, he drug himself wherever he wanted to go. It’s something to do with his spine. If you lay some jacks and marbles out he might play with them.

+ He had a lot of pain in his legs. He could get where he wanted to go though he just had a lot of pain doing so. He spent most of his time in the library area here.

+ This kitchen area up here used to be a porch and then they enclosed it.

+ The male of the house slept in this room that you have decorated in a masculine theme. He and his wife did not sleep together, they had separate rooms. You should get a cherry scented pipe tobacco smell out of this room sometimes.

+ This had to be servant’s quarters up here in the attic. I am seeing some other steps coming up here. (Owner was able to confirm that there were some stairs that came up from the laundry room.) They were pretty busy people.

+ There is something outside that keeps calling me. I don’t know what it is yet. I’m getting the number 26 or 36 with whatever is outside.

+ You and the house have bonded. You are taking the house back to the way it was originally without even knowing that you are doing so. They are happy with the changes you are making here.

+ When you are in this part of the house, you are not supposed to have your shoes on. The servants didn’t wear shoes so that is why you may feel like your feet hurt if you have your shoes on.

+ I can see the little boy playing in here more now. He had dark brown hair, dark brown eyes; they could be a dark blue so I’ll say dark colored eyes.

+ The house is very comfortable. They are very content with what you are doing with the house. It is very peaceful here.

+ I’m feeling like this place fell into your lap. The house chose you. It came to you. You are meant to be the caretakers of this place. I don’t see you ever getting rid of this place. You can’t part with it. This house talks to you.

+ Something in the backyard wants to be found. I am picking up that there is a grave out there.

+ Misty had Brenda do some dowsing outside. She found a possible grave of a male child buried beneath the garage in the far back corner. Misty felt that this grave could possibly be the grave of one of the servant’s children. Because of obstacles, Brenda was unable to do a thorough dowsing of the location to verify that it was a human burial.

MPR SUMMARY:

+ Upon arriving the owners informed us that the activity level had been very low for awhile. Although we did not capture much evidence during this investigation, Misty feels that 5 ghosts/spirits frequent the house. Those would include 2 former servants, a young handicapped male, an older woman and an older gentleman.

+ There is a grave that lies beneath the garage. It is not known rather this is the grave of a young boy or perhaps a family pet, but there is definitely something there.

+ MPR would like to thank Beth and John Courter for allowing us the opportunity to investigate their home & B&B. The home is immaculately restored and decorated. It is the perfect getaway for anyone looking to step back into the past. There is even the possibility of a ghostly encounter while you are there, so we strongly encourage you to bring your cameras and recorders when you book an overnight stay.
