Current Reportings by staff - Take the tour to hear the ghost stories that coincide with the evidence collected. Barbosa's is home to delicious handmade Mexican food, famous margaritas and last but not least, Ghosts! Yes, we said ghosts! Who is the female that looks down from the second story window? Could she be an original owner of the building…or a restless spirit from the former mortuary? What secrets could be held within these walls? Staff may argue that a member of the Barbosa Family is haunting the premises. Miller's Paranormal Research has some of the answers and the rest you can find out on the Ghost Tours of Kansas Haunted St. Joe ghost tour kicking off on Friday the 13th in August! *For non-local fans, this information will be posted after the launch of the |

Reported
Findings and Experiences: +
Prior to the investigation, while MPR was eating dinner in the restaurant,
the lights in their seated section turned off twice. +
Misty opened the door to the Roof Garden and asked “Is anyone here?”
Dee Ann was standing behind her and heard a raspy sounding male voice say,
“Yes” in her right ear.
+ A towel was found on the bottom step of the servant’s stairway. Team members had been up and down the stairway several times but never noticed a towel lying there. Photographs taken of the stairway during these trips confirmed that a towel was not there during their previous trips. A possible EVP of a female voice saying what sounds like “sweep the basement” was recorded at the foot of this stairway during the time that the towel appeared. In addition to this EVP the recording picked up what sounded like doors opening and closing in the basement while team members were upstairs. +
Two additional EVPs were recorded in the women’s restroom, both male
voices. While Brenda and Denise were sitting alone in the restroom foyer,
a male voice asked “Where’s your book?”
Cathy usually carries a notebook with her during our
investigations. He may have been wondering why we did not have one also.
Later as the team passed by the restroom a male voice was recorded saying
“I did".
It is not known what was said by the team when this
was recorded. +
An EVP was recorded in the basement of a raspy male voice saying what
sounds like “A lot of people wished that I
had died in here". +
As Misty was doing her reading in the dining room, she began to pick up on
an elderly gentleman who she described as picky. As she was saying,
“picky, picky man”, an EVP of a male voice could be heard talking over
her. It sounded like he said something like “Baby---“
then something else, perhaps “Baby
Stinks”. +
As team members ascended the main stairway, Misty asked “Why am I going
first?” She was responded to by a male voice saying “I’m
going first".
After going upstairs, the MPR team was trying to figure out what the rooms
originally were. Misty asked, “What was this room?” She was answered
by the same male voice saying what sounds like “Library". +
While Cathy was using the K2meter trying to communicate with a spirit, she
got several spikes and blinks. Photos taken at this time show an orb
hovering about her. While Cathy was conducting this session, Misty was
answering the questions she asked. +
Several photographs of an orb were captured near the window where Misty
felt that Mrs. Moss stands and watches for the return of her husband. |

Psychic Readings: +
We have to ask permission if we want to do anything tonight, of the
original owner. Miss Mary. She’s here. She’s the one I keep seeing up
in the hallway looking out the window. I am going to ask her if we can
come in. She wants us to take our shoes off and leave them at the door but
we can’t do that tonight. I wonder why she wants our shoes off. Maybe
it’s because it’s been raining all week. I’m getting the word
galoshes. That’s what she wants us to take off. She has a little bit of
an accent. +
Four servants, 3 females and a male. +
She’s looking for something. She is trying to tell me. +
The back stairway was used by the servants. That’s what they used to
come up and down. The family always used the front stairs. +
This thin guy was kind of like a chauffeur like guy. He kind of did
everything. He was like a gardener, a chauffeur. He kind of did everything
around the house. He is still here. He hasn’t crossed over at all. +
I want to know why she keeps standing upstairs. Let’s go up there and
find out. She doesn’t want us to use the servant’s stairs. We are
guests, we need to use the front stairs. +
She had like asthma, a respiratory problem of some kind. She likes to
stand here and look out the window. It’s like she’s looking for
someone to come in. +
I see a coffin in front of the big window. The lady’s name in the coffin
is McGlofflin or McLaughlin. She is upset because they did not bury her
with her shoes and hose. She calls them nylons. The casket was very simple
and open. I do not see a lid. I can’t see the time period because I can
only see her face. Her husband’s name was Sam.
+
She’s looking for her husband. She waits for him. She wants to take him
across with her but he never came back here. She is waiting for him so
that she can take him with her but he has not come home. She is still
waiting for him. Miss Mary is waiting for her husband. She wants him to
come home. It feels like she passed before him. Miss Mary has quite the
little love story. They were very much in love. +
There is another lady here too. It’s an older woman.
+
Steve is the one who walks up and down the hallway upstairs. He would like
to see the employees wash the windows and remodel a little bit. He
doesn’t like the texting going on during work. He doesn’t call it
texting, he calls it typing.
+
The mother-in-law is the older woman. She doesn’t like people in this
place. She is the one who locks the women in the bathroom. People upstairs
are intruding in her space. She had a sitting room and a bedroom upstairs.
She is not here all the time. She comes and goes. I’m getting the name
Betty for the woman upstairs. That may have been a surname like Beattie. +
There was another bedroom or room down here. I’m feeling the main or
master bedroom was down here. Something is different here in the dining
room. There was something that closed off this parlor from the rest of the
house. I’m seeing a bedroom. I’m only hearing pieces. I’m hearing
Master Room or something like that. It’s like this room was sealed off. (Denise
leaned against the wall and found pocket doors between the parlor and the
dining room.) +The
girl that got pushed and rubbed up against down in the basement, that was
done by one of the female servants. The girl was in her way. She was just
trying to move her. +
Miss Mary says again that she does not want us to use the servant steps.
She was kind of stiff and proper. Her mother-in-law ruled this house. She
was kind of a boss of this place. I am talking about the Moss family. She
was like the matriarch of the house. There were two other women in this
house besides her and they were not the servants. I think Miss Mary and
the mother-in-law had a little battle going on between them. One stayed at
one end of the house and the other stayed at the other end of the house.
They didn’t get along very well. +
I see a funny looking, little old man. He has a pipe. He is kind of quiet
and withdrawn. He had something to do with this house but I don’t know
what. I can just see him. This is a white man. He is real picky. Things
had to be done a certain way. He was before the Barbosa’s took this
place. He was a picky, picky man. (An
EVP of a male voice was recorded at this time something that sounds like
it starts with the word “Baby
----??”) + A lot of the essence in here has to do with the Moss family. There was a lot of bickering going on. Mr. & Mrs. Moss though were very much in love. I can feel that love throughout the house. I can’t feel Mr. Moss anywhere in the house though. She just waits for him. She doesn’t say why. I don’t know what happened to him. He’s gone. I don’t feel his energy anywhere in this house.
+
The mother-in-law was a very controlling woman. She had arthritis. She
says that being his mother makes her the head of the house. She has more
dominance over the female that was brought in. +
The people that are still here are the mother-in-law, Miss Mary, Steve,
the servants and this picky little guy with the pipe. I don’t know who
he is other than he had something to do with this house. He stays outside
most of the time. I’m getting the name or word Manly. +
The servants’ rooms were in the attic. I’m being drawn to the attic
but we can’t go up there. There is a lot of heaviness coming from there.
It makes my back hurt in the left shoulder area. +
The male servant’s name was Fred. He had a bad back. He was the
gardener. He took care of the house and other things. His wife was one of
the females that worked here. She did laundry and the cleaning. There was
a young girl who did most of the cooking, but she did not live here. She
came, cooked and left. Fred liked the Mr. & Mrs. Moss but he did not
like the mother-in-law. The matriarch, she was the dominant one of the
house. She was the one that ordered the servants around. +
Whoever was in this room (the foyer of the women’s bathroom) did a lot
of handwork. I see them sewing by hand, crocheting, etc.
+
Steve hung out mostly in the office. He wants the windows cleaned and the
typing to stop. I smell coffee. I keep getting the name Benji with him. +
The rest of the reading was lost when Misty turned off her recorder and
failed to turn it back on however this consisted of only about 30 minutes
of the investigation. |
|
MPR SUMMARY: +Misty
detected that 6 ghosts were present at Barbosa’s: a female servant, the
wife of Mr. Moss, the mother of Mr. Moss, a male servant named Fred,
another unidentified male and Steve (a past owner of Barbosa’s). MPR
would like to thank the owner and staff of Barbosa’s for the opportunity
