Brief Home and Property Description & History:

The home is estimated to have been built in the 1950’s with an addition added to the back of the home sometime before the current tenants moved in 7 years ago. The original part of the house consisted of 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms on the upper level; a dining room and kitchen on the next level; a converted garage on the next level and a sub-basement on the lowest level. The addition included a large living room, bathroom and two bedrooms, one currently still under construction which was accessible through the kitchen.

The home is located in an area of Jackson County which saw much activity during the Civil War, including over 31 skirmishes.

Reported Findings and Experiences:

+ 3 EVPs were recorded during the course of the investigation. While the homeowner was giving the team a tour of the house and explaining the locations of various activity, a voice was recorded in the converted garage saying what sounds like “The Women.” The next EVP was recorded in the upstairs yellow bedroom of a female voice saying, “I know.” This occurred just after Brenda finished explaining why she was setting up the recorders and giving reassurance that they were not there to cause any harm. The 3rd EVP was recorded in the upstairs green bedroom of a male voice saying “Out Of Focus. This was recorded just after one of MPR’s guest investigators stated that her camera was not working properly. Of the three EVPs recorded, the 2nd and 3rd seem to be in response to what was being said at the time. We feel these two EVPs are interactive.

+ During the investigation, both Dee Ann and the homeowner heard what sounded like footsteps on the steps leading to the bedroom level. Dee Ann heard this several times throughout the evening and was able to determine that this only seemed to happen shortly after someone had walked down the steps. She felt that some weak boards in the steps were causing this delayed sound as they popped back into place.

A couple of orbs were photographed in the converted garage where an EVP of a male voice was recorded by the MPR team.

Another orb was photographed in the living room. Several family members reported experiences in this room, including the feeling of being touched and voices.

Psychic Readings :

Misty was unavailable for this investigation so MPR resorted to an alternative method of communication in an attempt to determine who was possibly haunting the house. MPR learned that there were 4 ghosts occupying the house which consisted of a family who claimed to have died of the Spanish flu. They were the father, mother and two daughters, ages 12 and 14. Our sources indicated that their deaths occurred near the 1920’s. Research concerning the Spanish flu revealed that this epidemic occurred in 1918 and 1919. It first appeared in the military training camps located in Kansas which is where most of the recruits from the Kansas City area were sent for basic training. As soldiers were deployed overseas the disease was spread worldwide, becoming a global epidemic. The disease was spread from community to community and affected entire households. Influenza patients “died struggling to clear their airways of a blood-tinged froth that sometimes gushed from their nose and mouth,” as one physician described it.

MPR SUMMARY

Although not much evidence was collected during this investigation, aside from the few EVPs we recorded, MPR does feel that the house was haunted. After meeting the family and speaking with the daughter whom most of the activity seemed to occur around, it was determined that she had psychic abilities. She revealed that she sees ghosts and spirits in other locations besides her home. Because of these abilities, spirits and ghosts are drawn to her making her more susceptible to paranormal activity. This would also affect the other household members as these ghosts and spirits seek her out. Being able to speak about her abilities seemed to lift a great weight off her shoulders. Arrangements are in progress for her to meet with Misty in order to help her learn how to cope with these abilities and to assist those who are seeking help crossing to the other side.

A clearing was preformed and the house was blessed. At last check the homeowner reported that most of the intimidating activities had ceased. They still hear the steps creak, but MPR feels that this creaking stairs can be explained.
