Psychic Readings:

MISTY

After the investigation, Misty reported that she was visited by Sarah, the mother of Lucy who revealed additional details that were not given during the on-site reading. The following is a summary of Misty's on-site reading and the dream which followed:

During the investigation, Misty picked up on 4 spirits/ghosts: A sea-captain (spirit), a man named Samuel Dietz (ghost), a mulatto woman (ghost) and her child, Lucy Mae (ghost).

+ Sometime between 1837 and 1847, a Sea Captain transported escaped slaves up the river. A boarding house located in the area was used as a safe house and sometimes he had to let the slaves off because he knew that he was going to be checked. A distant relative whose name was Nannie May ran the boarding house. Nannie May would help hide the slaves until it was safe for them to travel further north. One time, the captain came with 7 people, 5 of whom were men and a mulatto woman. One of the men's name was Johnson and he went to the safe house with the mulatto woman whose name was Sarah. The others were hidden somewhere else. The Captain developed a fondness for Sarah. She was beautiful and no one knew that she was a mullato as she inherited mostly white features. Because of his fondness for her he made arrangements for her to work at the boarding house and would visit her when he was passing through. He could not take her home because he had a family in Kansas City. Eventually she became pregnant during one of these visits. The Captain died before the baby was born. He was in his mid 50's at the time of his death. After she became pregnant, she was walking into town to get supplies when a man named Dietz came along in his carriage. He was a well-to-do man who came from a wealthy family. He offered her a ride which she accepted but instead of taking her into town, he took her to a secluded place and raped her. He threatened to kill her if she told anyone and she was afraid that if she went to the authorities that they would find out about her background and she would be returned to slavery. *In checking census records for this area, it was found that a Dietz family and a Mays family lived in close proximity to each other during the time period in question.

When the baby was born, Sarah named her Lucy Mae. Lucy had fair skin like her mother except she had the thicker/coarser hair and also inherited the fuller lips from her black genes. Because the Captain quit calling on Sarah, Nannie May began to think that he may have abandoned her (she hadn't received word about his death) and it was finally decided that Sarah would take Lucy and go to Kansas City to look for him. Nannie bought train tickets for them. On the morning that they were to catch the train, Sarah and Lucy were walking downtown when they were spotted by Mr. Dietz. He pulled the wagon up beside them and offered them a ride into town. Before they got into town and where the current house is located, he murdered both of them. At the time it was just an open field. He was afraid that she would eventually tell about the rape. Somehow he saw her as a threat to him and his family. He suspected that the child might be his. He strangled Sarah and thinking that Lucy was dead, he buried her alive. Because Sarah and Lucy were to have gone to Kansas City, Nannie May did not suspect any foul play and didn't inquire to their whereabouts until quite some time later. It was not until then that they discovered that they never boarded the train and an investigation into their disappearance was launched. Mr. Dietz hung himself 2 yrs after their murders when he became a suspect and was questioned about their disappearance. *An EVP was recorded at the time that Misty revealed that Mr. Dietz hung himself in which a male voice responded, "No, I didn't".

+ Mr. Dietz hated blacks and belonged to an organization similar to the KKK. This organization used black hoods and masks and called themselves "long masks" or something sounding like that.

+ There used to be a tree here. That is where Mr. Dietz hung himself. It was a big oak tree. He buried Sarah and Lucy beneath this same tree. The homeowner confirmed that a big tree once stood in their front yard by the spare bedroom where Misty felt that most of the negative energy was concentrated. This hanging was probably what the roommate was experiencing when he saw a man's legs hanging down through the ceiling.

+ One of the original settlers to this area from this family (homeowner's family) was either named Senate or was a Senator. Homeowner confirmed that her early ancestor to the county was a Senator.

+ A large house near burned. It was a big plantation house. This house had a family cemetery there. Something else has been built on it now. Homeowner confirmed that the house next door had burned and that a little boy was killed in the fire. The house has since been remodeled. Misty felt that this may have been what she was picking up on in regards to the cemetery.

+ I keep getting the name Sed or Seda but don't know where that's coming from.

Clearing: A clearing was conducted by those present on the night of the investigation. Homeowner reported back that the house seemed to feel very peaceful and quiet. A few days later, she reported that she felt she was being watched. Misty suggested that the homeowner and her roommate perform another clearing to rid the house of any remaining residue.
