Around 1:15 a.m., Misty, Dee Ann and Brenda returned to the house to check equipment. While there, Misty decided to try to contact Katherine again. The following is a transcript of the reading done in the children's bedroom at this time. Also included is a minute by minute account of the EVPs that were recorded during this time and also of the strange phenomena that occurred. 

= Misty changed the battery in her camcorder that was placed in the hallway.

= The bed in the northwest corner should be turned around. During earlier EMF's readings taken over this bed, high readings were received at the foot of the bed and we received no readings at the head of the bed.

= The windows and mirrors were covered by the accomplice, Barry T. This was a tradition for him when someone died. He did all the nice things. Research revealed the following reasons why it is customary among certain sects of people to cover mirrors and windows:

* In order not to see in the mirrors of the evil spirits that are present in a house of mourning.

* If after death, a person sees his image reflected in a mirror, he will himself shortly die.

* The reflections of spirits are visible in mirrors.

* The departing spirit of the deceased may be caught in the mirror.

* Windows are covered as a way to announce death.

= Katy did not like having her head covered up. She didn't like anything over her face. Brenda asked why the mirrors were covered and while asking this question, an EVP of a male voice is recorded saying, "I'll Cover You" followed shortly thereafter by another male voice saying "Yeah." Was the accomplice talking to his victims as he covered them or was he assuring the murderer that he had him covered? Misty's camcorder shut off and she went to check it. The newly charged battery was already nearly dead so she turned off the camcorder and then turned it back on again. While she was working on the camera, another EVP was recorded of a female child's voice saying, "Hear Em? Hear He Comes. Help Me, I'm Dyin." This was followed by a male voice saying, "It's Just Like Killing Hogs." Then the same female voice is heard saying "Stay Out of Here".

= Misty returned to the room to continue her reading.

= She doesn't like all the people coming in; there are way too many people. After the murders were discovered, many people came into the house which contaminated any evidence that may have been recovered. Law enforcement lost control of the crime scene because so many came to view the carnages.

= She had to go potty. Her tummy hurt. She went to the bathroom. The pot was in the attic. While she was going to the bathroom, she heard a loud noise, like someone gargling. She stayed in the attic, the door wasn't quite closed. She could see 2 men. They hit her parents and then they went into her brothers' room. One boy was on his tummy. They kept hitting him again and again and again. They go over and hit the little one and then the other. One man covers the little one. The other boys, one is on his tummy and one is on his back, he keeps hitting them over and over and over. Blood is everywhere, on blankets, on walls. She's crying. Oh, don't cry. One hears her. She says, "Don't hurt me, don't hurt me." He pulls her out of the attic closet and hits her in the head in the hallway. By the foot of the bed will be the blood. He hits her again and puts her in bed. The other guy covers her up with a sheet. The father's head is crushed really bad. His eyes are gone, face is crushed. They beat him so bad. He was the first one killed. There are broken bones, chunks of brain, it stinks. It smells so bad. The accomplice is covering everything, just looking, not saying anything. Why? Why does he cover the mirrors? So he can't look at him. He doesn't want to see the reflection of the man who is evil.

= Lena stays outside. She won't come in.

= One man gets a pan of water. There is grease and tar on his boots. The other man has on rubber boots, a rubber apron, long sleeves and a pair of gloves. He doesn't want to get his hands dirty. Dirty axe…A dirty black axe. The other man throws a blanket on the floor, there is blood everywhere. Lena is awake, looking, listening. She doesn't know where to go. The man throws her on the bed, hits her on the head…. hits her over and over. He stops. He hits Ina. You can't see their faces anymore. He covers them up with a sheet, tying it. A pan of bloody water was found in the kitchen. The axe that was used during the murders was a long handled, black axe. Because of Lena's position on the bed when she was found, it was thought that she may have woken up during the murders and/or that her body was moved. The Stillinger girls were beaten so badly that they were unrecognizable. They were identified by the names written in their Bibles which had been placed on the dresser beside the bed.

= The men hid in the cellar. They came up. The door was unlocked.

= The men clean up. One man goes 3 towns away but comes back and leaves by train. Barry T. goes back to Illinois.

= Another female was involved. She won't come forward. She's middle aged and has a funny name. Camcorder stops recording. She's a good sized woman. She didn't see it, she knew about it after it happened. She knew one of the men….Barry T. She was a sister and she has a funny name. She was questioned. The man just laughed, he said, "That Kelly guy is going to get blamed for it all." During the slander trial, Vina Tompkins, sister of Harry Whipple testified that she overheard her brother, Harry Whipple, William Mansfield and two other men plotting a murder. It wasn't until after the murders occurred that she made the connection with the Moore murders.

= Sarah wants all her babies with her.

= The murder was over the business or rivalry.

= J.D.??? Was there anyone connected with the initials J.D.?

= The big burly man is trying to tell me his name. An EVP of a male voice is recorded here saying, "Dona." Another EVP is recorded at this time in the parent's bedroom which says, "Shall We Tell Her." This was followed by another EVP which sounds like "Whipple". I keep wanting to say police or politics. Was his name Edward? It's a funny name, I can't get it. His rival, his rival, he had to deal with tractors. Government, governor, NO, he says…..Dona was the name of Frank Jones' daughter-in-law. The rivalry between Frank Jones and Joe Moore began when Joe went into business for himself and contracted to sell tractors for the Deere Company. This created competition for Frank Jones' business. Mr. Jones was a State Senator.

= Lena wants to go home. This place is such a mess. There is blood everywhere. An EVP is recorded of a female moaning, "Ohhhhhh".

= Somebody moved stuff in the house before the police got here. They shouldn't have done that. They wanted to see who it was so they moved the covers. They stepped on a footprint. There was a footprint. Too many people, it was a blood footprint. There is a pan of water with blood in it…something eaten downstairs, some food left on the table. The loss of control of the crime scene and the pan of bloody water has already been explained. One of the first men to arrive at the house following the murders removed the covering from one the Stillinger girls' faces. There was food left on the table and it was speculated that either the murderer had helped himself to a meal or it was left over from a late night snack eaten by one of the family members.

At this time a train whistle is heard. It seemed that a train passed about every hour. Brenda decided to inform Joyce that her camcorder was not running and also decided to go downstairs to change the battery in her camcorder. She walked into the parent's room, took a few photos and then stopped at the head of the stairs. Even though she had gone up and down the stairs all night long, she felt as if she couldn't move. She felt as if something was coming up the stairs. Misty hollered for her to come back which seemed to break the paralysis. As she turned, she noticed that the parents' room was foggy. She hurried back to the children's rooms to rejoin Misty and Dee Ann. Misty said, "It's happening, they're coming up the steps."  

Brenda took a 35 mm photo of the doorway and sat on the bed. See photo associated with this event above. The train whistle was very loud now. We all felt as if the murderers had timed their attack with the passing of a train, as the sound seemed to pierce the room. The old steam engines would have been loud enough to mask any sounds or screams. The bedroom filled with a hazy mist which we all saw and commented on. Brenda saw white flashes or a flickering of light on the window. These lights have been reported by previous visitors. The room filled with a smell of grease and oil, much like you smell in a garage. Misty jumped up and walked towards where she thought the murderer was standing in the room. She reached out and tried to touch him and then sat on the bed with Dee Ann and Brenda after stating that he didn't want her to touch him. This happened right in front of one of the tape recorders in the room and just a few seconds later an EVP was recorded of a male voice saying, "How Ya Doin? Can't Get Over the Waste In Here, For A Minute, ahhh". This EVP was very loud and clear. There were no men in the house. We don't know if this was in response to Misty's attempt to touch him or if this was a comment that was made on the night of the murders. You could feel a strong energy throughout the whole room. You wanted to run, but there was no where to go. It felt as if something or someone was blocking the only way out. We just sat there, waiting for it to be over. Misty continued with her reading. "One had grease and oil on his boots. He got it from the train that he rode in on. They are after Katy in the attic now….Oh, please don't…..He throws her on one of the other brother's bed and covers her up. An EVP is recorded in response to this comment by Misty of a male voice which seems to be correcting her. He says, "NO…..On Her Bed." Another EVP soon follows of a male voice saying, "Lay Down." One of us made the comment that it was over now. The mist began to clear and we sat there listening. We heard a dripping sound. Drip….Drip….Drip, Drip….Misty stated that it sounded like the sound of dripping blood. This dripping sound can be heard on the recording.

We sat for awhile and then decided to go downstairs, knowing that the sewing room would be next. When we arrived downstairs, we changed the battery in the downstairs camcorder and decided to go outside and inform the others what we had just experienced. While we were outside the audio recorders continued to pick up EVPs and noises in the house. The following are possible EVPs that were recorded shortly after the event upstairs. All are of male voices:

"Harry"

"Harry, Come Help Me."

"Harry, Come Help Me."

"Terrible"

"They Already Told Me….Dead"

You hear a door close.

These last EVPs were all very weak and hard to hear. The recordings had to be amplified and cleaned up in order to come up with an audible phrase. They were picked up on the recorder that was left in the children's bedroom and sounded as if they had drifted up through the ceiling vent of the parlor, which is located just beneath the children's bedroom. The downstairs recorder left in the sewing room did not pick up these voices. Even though these EVPs required a lot of clean up, we found the comments to be too interesting not to include in this report.

Did we experience a residual of the night of the murders? We have all spent hours going over that same question. It is very unusual for our team to report something so bizarre but yet we have no other logical explanation. One's first thought would be that we imagined it all, but yet the evidence is indicating otherwise. The recorded sounds of the blood dripping made it all seem too real. A 35mm photo taken in the bedroom during this event showed the presence of the fog that we witnessed with the naked eye. The digital photos did not. This same photo showed a different décor in the room which makes one wonder if this photo was taken during some kind of time warp. EVPs seem to coincide with the movements of the murderers. The evidence seems to indicate that something very strange happened in that room. Was it a residual from the night of the murders? MPR hopes to return to investigate this possibility further.

Upon our return visit, Joyce was more prepared for what she would encounter in the house and was able to give us the following psychic reading during what we felt was a partial repeat of the residual that occurred on our first investigation.

Just after a strong energy hit Mike while he was sitting in the stairway, a train whistle was heard at 1:07 a.m. With the sounding of the whistle, the team went into the children's bedroom to await and witness any events that may repeat from the first investigation. Joyce began to give a reading as these events unfolded:

An EVP was recorded at this time but was unintelligible.

At this time the room began to change. Some described it as hazy, while others said it was grainy, darkening or out of focus.

Joyce began talking to the spirit:

An orb is recorded on video just after this statement at 1:16 a.m.

Back to the reading:

Jeff asked Joyce if Mansfield was present and Joyce seemed to suddenly channel Mansfield. Jeff asked if he killed his family and Joyce said that we wouldn't admit it. Jeff then asked "Why are you here William" and Joyce responded, "I'm here on business." Jeff asked, "Why are you here today?" Joyce responded, "I came back because you wanted me here. Besides, it's a break for me." Joyce then returned to her reading:

= Kathy: He stands cocky

= Kathy: He likes to stand with his right leg out and his hand on his hip.

Jeff commented that Whipple was known to be a bar room brawler.

Brenda asked which hand he used to hit them with and Joyce responded:

He hit them with both hands and he says, "I did a good job."

Brenda asked where he went after the murders.

An orb is recorded on video after this statement at 1:30 a.m.

Another orb is recorded on video at 1:30 a.m and at 1:31 the team begins to hear a dripping sound which sounded like dripping blood. They also comment on how the room seemed to appear normal again.
