1st Investigation - August 9, 2003
= The house felt very heavy upon arriving. The upstairs felt the heaviest. Some team members felt the children’s bedroom was the worst while others felt most uncomfortable in the parent’s room or attic. = EMF readings were taken throughout the house. Readings of 7+ were recorded in the sewing room, parlor, and upstairs bedrooms and in the kitchen. Some of these readings seemed to coincide with the areas where the most blood loss would have occurred, being highest at the heads of the beds and were stationary. A reading taken in the sewing room, seemed to indicate movement from the bed to the closet. An EVP was recorded during the EMF reading in the sewing room of a female voice which said "We’re Hiding." There is no electricity or plumbing in the house to have given false readings. = Various creaking noises could be heard in the children’s bedroom and an unexplained rocking noise was picked up on audio. = An odor of grease and oil was smelled at various times and in various locations. This odor would last for a few minutes and then dissipate. At one time this smell was very strong in the children’s room and 4 EVPs were recorded during this time. = Misty, Dee Ann and Brenda may have experienced a residual haunting of the night of the murders. Evidence is inconclusive as to the residual, however photos and EVPs recorded at the time of the event, seem to indicate that a residual occurred. = A 35mm photograph (above) taken in the children’s bedroom during the above event, shows the mist that engulfed the room. This photograph was taken towards the open door of the bedroom. The walls are currently covered with light wall paper but this photograph shows what appears to be wainscoting on the lower half of the walls. Two of the beds in the room were wrought iron and one was made of small logs. In the lower right corner of the photograph there appears to be a black bedpost. This would be in the same location where one of the wrought iron beds is currently located. There also appears to be a chimney flue with a wall built around it where the closet is now located and possibly some pictures on the wall that were not in the room. Also, in the upper right-hand corner, there appears to be a man dressed in black pants or a black apron. Just to the left of the center of the photograph appears to be another man dressed in a white shirt with a thin black tie. This photograph also contains a spirit energy which forms the shape of a warped axe. There is no explanation for the change in the appearance of the room which leads us to wonder if we may have photographed the room as it actually appeared on the night of the murders. This key photograph along with some of the EVPs captured during this event, leads us to believe that a residual may have actually occurred. UPDATE: More evidence has been discovered in this photograph. Along with the information provided above, there is the apparition of a little girl hiding in the closet doorway as the residual was taking place. There is also an apparition in the doorway leading to the children's room of whom we believe to be the sheriff, walking through the door carrying a satchel/bag that was mentioned during one of Misty's readings. This additional evidence was discovered by MPR and Movie Memories while editing the documentary.
= A photograph of ghost mist (above) was captured outside the house with a 35mm camera.
= An unexplained blue streak of light (above) was photographed in the attic. = A total of 31 EVPs were recorded during the investigation. Most of these EVPs occurred during the time span of 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. 21 of these EVPs were recorded in the children’s bedroom, 6 in the parent’s bedroom and 4 in the sewing room. For a full report on these EVPs, see RECORDED EVPS. = No orbs were recorded upstairs on video. = 65 orbs were recorded on video downstairs. 2 of these were recorded in the kitchen during Misty’s reading. A total of 63 were recorded in the sewing room. The majority of these orbs were recorded near the window or at the foot of the bed between 3:20 a.m. and 4:43 a.m. Joyce and Brenda noted much visual movement in the sewing room during this period. = The audio on the camcorder recorded what sounded like a door opening at 1:34:09 followed by a bang at 1:35:00 a.m. A whistling noise is heard on the camcorder audio at 1:35:21 a.m. and then the battery went dead. This coincides with the time that the event began upstairs. The battery was replaced at 1:56 a.m. and captured an orb traveling the entire length of the bed a few seconds later. It is believed that Lena and Ina were attacked following the murders upstairs and the recording of this orb would have followed the time sequence of when the murders should have occurred downstairs.
= While the team was sleeping in the parlor, Misty and Brenda awoke about simultaneously after being tickled. Misty was tickled on the neck and Brenda was tickled on the feet.
= There are some bats in the house (above) which are nesting in the attic. They may be responsible for some of the reported noises.
= 10 photos of green mist captured on back porch by different cameras; any light sources have been ruled out. The photo above is one of the ten photos taken and is also taken immediately after the ghost mist photo indicated above. = The vibrations in the house are very, very strong. MPR feels that these vibrations are causing the house to be very haunted. Our team psychics both felt that the 3 girls have been to the light but have returned to the house for some reason. They did not feel that any of the other family members were present on the night of our investigation, and if so, they did not reveal themselves. = A manifested energy exists in the house. This was detected by both Joyce and Misty. The owner of the house confirmed that Ouija Boards have been used inside. = MPR has concluded that this house is the most haunted location that they have investigated and plan to conduct further investigations to determine rather a residual haunting is occurring. |

2nd Investigation - September 12, 2003 The MPR team arrived about 7:00 p.m. Our main goal was to collect additional evidence concerning a reoccurring residual and also to cover areas of the house which we felt we did not get adequate coverage on our first visit.
Again, the house felt very heavy as we first stepped inside the door. Kathy, guest psychic and daughter of Joyce, assisted us on this investigation and gave a reading upon arrival. (See Kathy’s Psychic Reading) While standing in the parlor by the piano, Kathy was overcome by grief. She felt as if she was picking up on the emotions of someone who had stood in that same spot after the discovery of the murders.
Later that evening, we were joined by Mike and Jeff, guest investigators. After setting up equipment, we visited for awhile and began the investigation around 10:30 p.m. There were no unusual events until after midnight. Mike conducted EMF readings and again recorded high readings in the sewing room, underneath the stairway, in the parlor and in the upstairs bedrooms. Around 12:30 the team ventured upstairs and Jeff asked Joyce to show him how to use the crystal. As they were attempting to make contact with any spirits in the house, Mike was hit with a burst of energy that seemed to come up the stairs. This was just after Jeff asked the murderer to show himself and just prior to the oncoming train whistle. This occurred at 1:03 a.m. Mike said that all the energy was zapped out of him and he burst into tears, overcome by sadness of the past events. When the train whistle was heard at 1:07, we thought it was time to move to the children’s room to see if any part of the residual that occurred on our first visit would repeat itself. As in the first investigation, the activity seemed to increase with the energy coming up the steps. As the team sat in the children’s room, Joyce began doing a reading. (See Joyce’s Psychic Reading) The room seemed to undergo changes which team members and guests described as follows: hazy, grainy, darkening, and out of focus. As the energy began to dissipate, you could hear what sounded like blood dripping. There were 6 witnesses to this event. The energy was not near as strong as the first time, but it was present and three events took place which was a repeat of the first event.
A photo (above) taken by Joyce during her reading, showed a black energy or shadow standing in front of her. Also, while Jeff was taunting the spirit while in the children’s room, Brenda took a photo which captured an orb in front of his face. (See photos below)
The rest of the evening was uneventful with the exception of occasionally hearing footsteps or seeing an orb or two with the naked eye. The team packed up about 6:00 in the morning feeling that we had accomplished what we had come to do. After reviewing video and audio tapes the following evidence was collected: = 72 orbs were recorded on video in the Parlor near the piano where numerous guests including MPR has reported activity between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. = 15 orbs were recorded on video in the children’s room during Joyce’s 1:00 a.m. reading. = 2 EVPs were conducted when guest psychic, Kathy was conducting her reading upstairs. = 15 EVPs were recorded in the kitchen between the hours of 12:35 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. = 7 EVPs were recorded in the sewing room between the hours of 3:05 a.m. and 4:35 a.m. = 5 EVPs were recorded in the children’s bedroom. = 1 EVP was recorded in the parlor around 4:30 a.m. = 4 EVPs were recorded in the parent’s room between 12:35 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. |

3rd Investigation - March 19 & 20, 2004 REPORTED FINDINGS AND EXPERIENCES
March 19 (p.m.) and March 20 (a.m.) On this night only the MPR team and production crew were present at the house
= EMF readings throughout the house were registering about 4. = A pipe smell was detected upstairs about 12:54 a.m. The smell was first detected by one of the camera crewmen stationed in the parent’s room and then continued into the children’s room where M.P.R. team members, Brenda, Dee Ann and Misty along with Movie Memories Producer Joe Pate also detected the smell. Joyce and Movie Memories Producer Stacy were stationed in the sewing room downstairs and reported about 15 minutes later that they too detected the pipe tobacco smell. = At 1:07 a.m., Producer Joe felt a tap on his shoulder. = The pipe tobacco smell was again reported at 1:27 a.m. = Brenda a whisper behind her while standing by the bed in the parents room. This whisper was also heard by Misty and recorded on both audio tape and video/audio. It was of a male voice saying "A-whooo." At this same time a smell of wet sheets seemed to be present near the bed. = At 4:11 a.m., Brenda and Dee Ann were in the parlor gathering their blankets and pillows when Brenda again heard a whisper behind her. This time she felt overcome by an enormous grief and fell to her knees. She described it as possibly being the same feeling that Mike Smith had experienced during the investigation conducted on Sept 12. The spell that seem to overcome her was broken when team members misunderstood who description of being "reduced" as "goosed" causing her to laugh. = Team members made camp in the children’s room for the night and heard an unidentified noise which sounded like something falling to the floor at 4:28 a.m. = At approximately 5:30 a.m., a slat on the bed located in the northwest corner of the children’s room broke and the mattress fell to the floor. Dee Ann and Brenda were on the bed at the time so this was not caused by paranormal activity however the broken slat may have become the object of paranormal activity the next evening which is why this incident is mentioned. = 54 orbs were recorded in the children’s room during the 4 hours of taping. March 21, 2004 (a.m.) On this night, 6 overnight guests of Movie Memories stayed in the house. MPR and the Production Crew stayed outside for most of the evening. The activity was very high and MPR joined those in the house around midnight. Due to the video production, MPR will only report what they personally experienced on this particular night and will not include a report of the experiences of the guests overnighters.
= Upon entering the house earlier in the evening, MPR conducted EMF readings. Readings throughout the house were registering 6+ which is the highest readings that we have encountered consistently throughout the house. = At 12:34 a.m., Brenda reported a metallic taste in her mouth while in the children’s room. Misty and Dee Ann also reported this taste as did one of the overnight guests stationed in the parent’s room. = At 12:41 a.m., Misty feels Harry Whipple’s presence in the parent’s room and asks him to come in and tell his version of what happened the night of the murders. Seconds later, an orb was recorded in the parent’s room crossing the footboard of the bed and heading in the direction towards the children’s room. = At 12:52 a.m., a train passed and the windows in the children’s room begin to rattle very loudly. This may have been due to vibrations from the train however previous trains did not cause the windows to rattle. It was reported that the windows had rattled earlier in the evening at a time when there was no passing train. = Misty felt Blackie come into the room a couple minutes after the rattling had stopped and heard someone whisper in her ear while sitting on the bed in the northeast corner at 12:56 a.m. She then moved and joined Brenda and Dee Ann who were sitting on the floor in front of the northwest bed. = At 12:59 a.m., Brenda reported that something had touched her on top of her head. = At 1:06 a.m., Misty feels the tension rising in the children’s room and asks Dee Ann and Brenda to join her in a prayer for the "white light" protection. A video recording in the room captures a mist that appeared to be dropping "glitter-like" dust at the exact moment that Misty calls upon the white light. This video recording was captured with one of the overnight guests cameras and the clip of this phenomena will be available on the video production of "Villisca, The Untold Story." = At 1:11 a.m., Harry Whipple begins to give a confession to Misty concerning his role in the Villisca murders. At 1:21 he reveals the name of Blackie as the actual murderer. Misty begins to pace back and forth as Harry tells her that he is afraid of Blackie.
= Dee Ann takes a photograph with Misty’s 35 mm camera and captures a black apparition standing in the middle of the log bed located in the southeast corner of the children’s room, hands folded in front of him. The stance and build of this ghostly image is the same stance and build of the man who appears in the axe photo taken during our first investigation. There also appears to be an unidentified white object which seems to be in front of him, perhaps confining him to the corner. We do not know what this white object is as there were not physical objects between the bed and the camera which could have caused this effect. We can only assume that it may be a barrier of "white light protection" that had been called upon earlier. = At 1:25 a.m., Misty reports that Blackie is after the babies sleeping on the bed in the northwest corner. At 1:27 a.m., a loud bang is heard from beneath this bed. It sounded as if the broken bed slat had been picked up and slammed to the floor. Misty, Dee Ann and Brenda assumed that the bed had collapsed again. = During the events that occurred above, both Dee Ann and Brenda experienced an uncontrollable shaking. This was not due to being cold. This shaking can best be described as the feeling one feels when they get a shiver up their spine, a tingling sensation or a rush. However, the shaking they experienced lasted for longer than an ordinary shiver, perhaps lasting for longer than a minute at a time, long enough that it was noticed by the others who were present in the room. Dee Ann began shaking after Misty sat down between her and Brenda, and began communicating with Harry. You can see Dee Ann's pony-tail bobbing up and down in the video. She continued shaking like this until Misty got up began to pace. It was right after this that Dee Ann took the photo of the apparition in the corner of the room. Brenda began shaking uncontrollably during the time that Misty was pacing back and forth. She was still shaking at the time that the slat was slammed to floor. After careful thought about these shaking incidents, we have concluded that our energies were being drawn for us at the time. It was Dee Ann’s energy that the ghost used in order to manifest in the corner of the room and Brenda’s energy that was used in order to gain enough strength to slam down the slat. = Misty continued her reading with Harry and headed downstairs. She notices that the picture of the house located in the kitchen begins to show Mansfield’s face and also the face of what looked to be a child peering out of the upstairs window. This is recorded by the production crew. = Brenda and Dee Ann returned upstairs to but the bed back up only to find that it was still intact. The bed had not fallen as they had previously thought. = The house felt very peaceful after all this activity occurred and the MPR team returned to the trailer provided by Movie Memories to sleep for the remainder of the night. |
