Brief Home and Property Description:

2-story turn of the century home built in 1910. First story consists of kitchen, dining room, living room, 2 bedrooms and bathroom. Second story consists of 3 bedrooms, an attic closet and an unfinished bathroom. The home is currently being remodeled and an addition to the home has been added. A partial basement has been added under the addition. An old barn and some outbuildings are also on the property. The home is occupied by the family of the current owners which includes a family of 3 children. The family has occupied the house for 14 years.

Community History:

Caldwell County was once a part of Ray County. For many years after the organization of Ray County, the territory that now includes Caldwell County was unsettled. Over it roamed migratory Indians and white hunters but it was not considered for homes because it had too much prairie land.

The settling of the community came about because of the "Mormon Occupation" which mainly occurred between 1836 and 1839. Joseph Smith, the founder of the church of Latter Day Saints or Mormons, as commonly called, was living in New York when he had a revelation which told him to dig up gold plates. These gold plates, written in mystic characters, contained the Book of Mormon, which gave a new religion to the New World. Smith's preaching gained many converts and he and his converts first settled in Kirkland, Ohio. Because of opposition to their religion, these converts moved to Jackson County, Missouri but soon met opposition there also. They were driven from Jackson County into Clay County and remained there until three brothers decided to settle in what is now known as Caldwell County in 1832. Other families began to follow to escape the persecution. In 1836, an arrangement was made with the state legislature by which the entire county was to be given to the Mormons. Ray County was divided and two new counties were formed: Davies County to the north was reserved for Gentile settlers (settlers who were non-Mormon) and Caldwell County, formed from the center of Ray County was reserved for the Mormons. The Mormons established their headquarters at their church and by 1836, the city contained over 4000 people.

In 1838, serious troubles developed between the Gentiles and the Mormons within Caldwell County and surrounding counties. These quarrels led to what is known as the "Mormon War". Skirmishes broke out throughout Caldwell County between the Mormons and Gentiles and on Oct 30, a skirmish broke out which resulted in the death of 17 Mormons. These dead were buried in an unfinished well. The next day, the Mormon militia surrendered the city to the state militia and the church leaders were taken as prisoner. After the surrender, the Gentiles demanded the removal of the Mormons from the entire state and the Mormons quickly sold off their property at cheap prices and left for Illinois which was their home until they settled permanently in Utah. By 1839, most Mormons had left Caldwell County and the city they developed dwindled away. The population of Caldwell County fell to 1000 people but that number was soon increased by the coming of new settlers who were able to buy the land at prices way below their market value.

The Mormon cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in the county. It was thought to have contained 200 graves but only four of those names were kept. It was learned during the investigation that the tombstones from this cemetery were removed and used as a basement foundation by a local farmer when he was building his home. That farm home has since been bulldozed along with the tombstones that made up it's foundation.

During the Civil War, Caldwell County was occupied by both Unionists and Southern Sympathizers. Many southern sympathizers were killed by the Unionists when they refused to pledge loyalty to the Union. Although no major battles occurred in Caldwell County, there were two notable skirmishes.

After the Civil War, the railroad began an advertising campaign which brought the railroad to Caldwell County along with new settlers. The growth of the county has continued although much of the area still remains farmland today.

House History:

The current house was built in 1910 and for the last few years, the owners have been working on an addition to accommodate their growing family. The current home was built by Alex and Ollie B. The land was once a small settlement containing several houses and the following names were taken from the abstracts dating from 1838 through 1910: (only partial names will be given): King (F); Jame E, Eleanor, & Robert F (J), T & E Davis; Charles S & Mary (C); J.D., Joseph & Mary (P); William & Margaret E (W); William & Anna (W); Henry & Sarah J Hooper; Wilt (T); Jacob & Mary (B); William, Mary E, Jesse, & Clyde (S); Clark (S); Casper & Sarah S (C); Lyman & Latisha (S); George W & Virginia (H); J.W. & Emily (D); George W & Nancy V (F); John A & Emily (M); R.M. & Tearah (T); James W & Mary (W); William & Jesse (S); J H & Freddie (S); Marion & Mollie (B); David D & Fidelia (Z); Jesse E & Neva (S), Collins; Isiah (J), Carter. Of the known landowner's, abstract records show that 5 of them died while they owned the property: William (S), Jesse E (S), Alex (B) & James (W), Charles S (C). There is evidence throughout the property of several wells and some possible foundations.

Current Owner Reportings:

Based on the descriptions given by the female homeowner and her two daughters of ghosts and spirits seen in and around the home, it was determined by Joyce and Misty that they have clairvoyant abilities. Joyce and Misty were able to see these same ghosts and spirits and described them in the same detail. Because of their clairvoyant abilities of the female occupants of the home, most of these ghosts and spirits were seen with the "third eye" and not necessarily as a materialized apparition.

· All family members have seen the apparition of an old man wearing overalls down by the pond area. He appears to be digging for something.

· The kitchen door opens by itself on many occasions.

· Occupants feel the need to play radios constantly, both inside and outside the home. This helps to mask the sound of unexplained noises.

· Female homeowner and both of her daughters have seen an older woman with white hair. Her hair is pulled back in a bun and she is wearing a blue dress with a high collar.

· There was a noticeable increase in activity after the remodeling began. The homeowners called a local minister to do a blessing on the home. This helped for a little while and things calmed down a bit.

· Previous 35mm photos taken in the home show orbs and ghost mist.

· Usually around 11:20 p.m., the family hears a door slam followed by footsteps on the staircase.

· Shortly after remodeling began, a piece of meat flew off the kitchen table. All those who were present at the table witnessed this incident.

· Furnace door would open in the middle of the night. The door does not open easily and requires some extra effort to get it open. Every morning, for about a week, homeowners would awake and find it open.

· The activity seems to be especially heavy in late October. This is when state militiamen attacked the Mormon village according to local history.

· During the building of the addition, when a board needed selected it seemed that a board of the exact right length to complete the job they were working on. They began to joke about "Uncle Al" helping out.

· Female owner and daughters have seen the apparition of a man in overalls upstairs. This is not the same one seen at the pond. This one is heavier set.

· The children refuse to sleep upstairs due to the activity they feel up there. The female owner refuses to sleep in the master bedroom due to the activity she feels in that room and the vivid dreams she has while sleeping in there.

· The daughters claim to play with a little girl ghost upstairs. They describe her as having blonde hair and running from room to room. Their mother has also seen her.

· The male homeowner witnessed a light blue blanket fly across the living room on it's own. No one was home during this incident.

· Husband and wife often hear footsteps on the porch or on the stairway when no one else is home. The sound is so vivid that they often find themselves expecting their spouse to come through the door.

· All family members have witnessed dark shadows darting about the house.

· The female homeowner awoke to find 5 white-gowned women dancing around her bed in a circle. 3 were old women and 2 were middle-aged. On another occasion she awoke to see a man standing over her who was clad in a ceremonial robe that appeared to be white with blue stripes. He had long dark hair.

· Wife dreamed about a man standing in her kitchen. A week later she was given a photograph of her "Uncle Al" and recognized him as being the same man she saw in the dream.

· Female homeowner often awakes to a smoldering smell. Her first thought is that the house is on fire. This has happened on more than several occasions.

· Wife often reads her children stories and always sensed that she had many unseen listeners that were also gathered around.

· Female homeowner saw a man walk down the stairs and go out the door. This man was wearing a chambray shirt, pants and boots.

· Sometimes while sleeping, the wife will awake to the vision of arms coming out of the ceiling. These arms appear to be playing with an old time "String and Button" toy.

· Wife saw a man with blonde curly hair by the attic door. He had an immense bright light surrounding him.

· Female homeowner has seen a tall, skinny man in the kitchen who is wearing blue jeans and has on an old-time jacket. He has black hair.

· Has seen a younger man dressed in jeans and a white tee shirt on several occasions but has only seen him outside. One time she observed him stomping on cans. Upon sharing this vision with her mother, her mother thought it sounded like a young man who had lived up the road from the current house. He was killed in a car accident many years ago.

· Female homeowner sometimes wakes up feeling as if her hands are tied.

· Female homeowner and daughters have seen white cloudy figures in the yard. They usually appear in a group of 2 or 3.

· Occupants of the home have seen various articles move on their own.

· Wife feels a male presence in the master bedroom that she is uncomfortable with. She feels he may have an intimate attraction to her. One morning she awoke as her covers were being pulled off of her thigh. She feels there have been several incidents of attempted intimacy by this male presence.

· Wife has seen another lady in a long dress but she is dressed differently than the one they have seen in the blue dress.

· Oldest daughter has seen the apparition of a calico cat who is wearing a blue collar with a gold nametag.

· Oldest daughter has expressed that she often feels like people are looking in from the outside watching her. She also has the feeling that an arrow will be shot through one of the windows.

· The younger daughter has seen people standing in the living room and a man standing in the kitchen.

Reported Findings and Experiences:

· 41 orbs were captured on video with Video Camera #1. 6 of those orbs were captured in the dining room, 13 in the upstairs hallway, 22 orbs in the living room. Of the orbs captured in the living room, 9 were just prior to the clearing and 8 were captured after the clearing entering into the perimeter of the clearing circle.

· Just prior to clearing, video cameras #1 & #2 were shut off simultaneously. An orb is captured on video camera #1 passing by camera #1 just prior to being shut off.

· A heavy floral scent was detected in the older daughter's bedroom at 11:07 p.m.

· 5 EVP's were recorded. 4 of those were captured in the living/dining room area and 1 outside. They are as follows: "Farewell", (this sounded like the voice of a man or an old woman); female voice, "I'm Behind You", possibly a male voice saying "Keep Out of It"(this EVP was captured just after the video cameras shut off prior to the clearing), a woman saying "Take the Knot Out of This House" (she may be saying the word "knave" instead of "knot" if the speaker spoke with an accent which seems to make more sense), the last EVP was captured outside of a woman's voice saying "They Hung Him."

· Several team members experienced camera malfunctions at various times throughout the evening. Some of these malfunctions occurred to two team members at the same time.

· Several photographs of ghost mist and spirit energy were captured outside. Two of the spirit energy photos were captured down by the pond where owner's reported seeing a man in overalls.

Psychic Readings:

Both psychics immediately picked up the on the old Mormon settlement that once existed on the property and the desecrated cemetery that exists just over the hill. This would be the same cemetery mentioned in the History report. The spirits and ghosts from that cemetery were determined to be the main cause of the activity. They were very upset with the removal of their tombstones and the manner in which those stones were used.

Joyce

· She was first contacted by a ghost named "Kentucky Al". He did not reveal any details about himself. A man named Alex appeared on the abstract records.

· A settlement was just to the west of the house. She saw a steam engine, sawmill, trading post, cows, chickens and lots of people associated with the settlement. Additional history research indicated that a water mill and an ox mill existed near the property between 1839-1859 and 1848-1933, respectively.

· She saw a lady in a long skirt or homemade dress, she had white hair in which she pulled back into a bun. Her name is Annabelle. She also sees a tombstone with Annabelle's name, which contained the date of 1866. It was a handmade stone. She had shingles at one time. The name of Anna is shown on the abstracts. Female occupants of the home have described seeing a woman with white hair pulled back in a bun.

· A road went through the property at one time. She saw covered wagons and a lot of people traveling.

· She picked up a male ghost who called himself "Hoot". His last name was either Hoover or Hooper. He wore a slouch hat and a very dirty coat. He was described as appearing to be very dirty. The abstracts reveal the name of H. Hooper as a former owner.

· Saw a tombstone with the name Elijah engraved on it. Last name may be Casey or something that begins with the "K" sound.

· A boy about 9-10 years old is seen lying in a wooden coffin. His name was Jonathan Davis and he died of pneumonia. Many people are gathered around. A Davis family purchased the land in 1867 according to the abstracts.

· A man at the boy's funeral, named Rupert Mockery sits in a chair on the porch. He has white hair and a long white beard and mustache. He cannot walk. They move him by picking up him up while he is sitting in the chair.

· There was once an old house that was behind the current home. Old photos verify that an older home was built at the back of the property, behind the current home.

· She sees people dancing in the yard, celebrating something. There is fiddle, guitar and banjo music.

· A man in a long black coat, black flat top hat, dark hair that is speckled with gray and mustache is wearing guns at his sides. He may be a minister. He gives his name as Bill.

· She saw many names being written in some kind of registry. The Mormon's kept very good records of the members of their settlements and communities. This may have been a registry required of the church.

· A former owner lost the land for some reason and an auction was held. She saw the name Nathaniel Pierce being written on a slate in 1933. There was also a man in a coffin, it could have been the same man. The man was very upset that his personal items were being auctioned.

· The name of Nellie was given, sometime in the 1800's but no details.

· Something expired in 1897 having to do with a deed.

· A log cabin or wooden building was on the property in 1884. There was a fire and it burned. See client reporting of smoldering wood smell.

Her husband's name was Beryl Carver. She is buried in the cemetery over the hill that was destroyed. Myrtle's maiden name began with the letter D. She was not a Mormon but was buried in the Mormon cemetery. The date of 1843 was written on her tombstone. She had a sister named Hannah and brothers named George, Benjamin and Earl.

· There were more houses over the hill. The property appears to have been a settlement with several houses on it and several houses around it.

· Stagecoaches passed by on the wagon trail. History research indicates that a town located to the northeast was a common stopping place for stagecoaches along the trail.

· A man walks through the house now and then but is not associated with it. He has black hair and dark eyes. He is wearing black britches, a dark grayish-brown shirt and an old jacket. He walks with a limp and is very tall and skinny. He is about 6'2" or 6'3". He gave his name as Glen. See client report of similar description.

· Saw an older man down by the pond dressed in overalls. See client report of similar description.

· A little girl named Julie plays upstairs, running from room to room. She has blonde hair and her long dress is torn. She is about 5 years old. See client report of similar description. Video captured upstairs during this reading showed an orb racing back and forth from room to room.

· A woman gave her name as Rena. No other details were given.

· A woman near the bathroom is dressed in a bonnet and long skirt.

· There were 5 babies who were stillborn on the property.

· Someone was hung after the barn was built. This may have happened in the year 1888.

(An EVP was recorded saying "They Hung Him" but was not recorded at the same time as the reading was given.)

· She saw a lady with long brown hair. She wore her hair braided and had curled bangs. She was bent over and moved very slowly. Her name was Hettie or Hattie.

· Saw an older man lying in a wooden coffin who gave his name as Bill. Many people are in the house. A man named William C (S) died while living on the property in 1898. Abstract records contained a probate record deeding the land to his heirs.

· A cemetery is located nearby. Most of the activity comes from there. It was to the south of the property. They are upset because their cemetery was destroyed. The cemetery had about 200 people buried there. History research indicated that a Mormon cemetery existed somewhere south of the property. It was destroyed. According to history it contained about 200 graves. Only 4 of those names are known.

· Was given the name of "Katy" as someone who hangs around outside.

Misty

· Picked up a cemetery with unmarked graves as we drove down the road approaching the house.

· Picked up the name Annabelle who was an elderly woman. Joyce also picked up this same name.

· A man named Henry who lived on the west hillside followed her around throughout the property. She was uncomfortable with him. He is the man who hangs out in the master bedroom making the female owner uncomfortable. This would be the same man mentioned in Joyce's reading who went by the name of "Hoot".

· Was contacted by a ghost named Mary, but no details were given about her. Several landowners had wives who were named Mary.

· Saw what appeared to be a family standing on the ridge down by the pond. There was a small child of about 8-9 years, the rest were adults. Two were females and one was a male. Another one had their back turned to her and would not show her it's face. She felt that it was a male. The last name of the family was Anderson.

· She picked up strong vibrations and got goose bumps down by the barn. She felt very dizzy. There may have been another house on the property in this area. Old photos of the current house show another house behind it, located in the area where she received these vibrations.

· There were some skirmishes in the area but not directly on the property. These happened across the road and two hillsides over. History research indicates that one of the few skirmishes that occurred in Caldwell County, occurred in this area. A Union troop was ambushed by a Confederate troop.

· She saw wagon trains, makeshift homes and confused people, following someone and not knowing where they were going. This could describe the scene of the Mormon's seeking new homeland after their exile from Jackson County. See History Report.

· Some native American tribes banded together for some reason on the northside of the property. She heard drums, chanting and prayers. She felt a great sadness. She also saw them dancing. History research shows that the territory was once occupied by American Indians who were driven off the land as white settlers moved in.

· A creek exists further down the property line. There were several hangings by this creek. Homeowner was able to verify the location of the creek. An EVP was recorded of a woman saying "They Hung Him" but not during this reading.

· A woman named Lucinda or something like that hangs around the older daughter. There are also some Indians that watch her. The abstracts give the name of Latisha as being the wife of a former landowner. See the client report about the daughter's feeling of an arrow coming through the window and being watched.

· Detected the name of Sarah Kay and the name of Christy or Christa. They come from the house down the road. Several past landowners had wives who were named Sarah.

· There used to be a storyteller in the village that many would come to listen to. See clients report on sensing other's presence when reading to her children.

Clearing:

A clearing was performed in the living room of the home. Joyce and Misty felt many spirits and ghosts being brought in. The circle consisted of the homeowners and the investigation team.
