Brief Home & Property History:
(By Brenda & Marian)
1. Original homesteaders came to Cass County in 1842, purchased 200
acres of land
2. The father died in 1866 just after the Civil War, mother died in
1882
3. Both buried in cemetery on their land
4. After their deaths, land divided among their children, this portion of
land was sold about 1913
5. The family moved the graves of their parents/grandparents to
another cemetery April 23, 1903
6. Property has changed hands several times throughout the years
7. Research is still ongoing to determine year that house on this
portion of the property was built
8. Civil War battle occurred on this property
9. Team member once played in the woods surrounding this property
when she was a child; remembers finding cannonballs and buttons in
woods
Current Owner Reportings:
Current owners are lifetime
residents of the community. They recently purchased the property with
the intention of tearing down the house and building another. Owners
had heard throughout their years in the community that the house was
haunted. They wanted us to investigate the house and property before
proceeding with their plans. Reports relayed to them throughout the
years are as follow:
1. Apparition which appeared as a white blob seen in the house;
residents at this time named the ghost Herman
2. Items being moved or knocked off shelves/tables
3. Television turning on and off by itself
4. Lights turning on and off by themselves
Other Reportings:
1. Summer of 2000, previous owners contacted the Cass County
Historical Society seeking information about the history of the
home; they reported they were hearing men's voices and growling
noises; sometime between Summer 2000 and Spring 2001, family
abandoned the home, leaving all of their belongings behind; the
Cass County Historical Society was unable to contact them after the
initial call
2. Relatives of the original homesteaders reported that a cemetery was
somewhere on the property; the family moved the graves of their
ancestors when the land was sold to someone outside of the family
3. Individual reported baby-sitting for a couple in the 1970's; back
door opening on its own; she would lock door and pulled on door to
verify it was locked; would go back in to living room and door
would open again; this continued all night long
Reported Findings & Experiences:
1. Photos indicated quite a bit of activity in the house
2. Orbs captured in all the rooms
3. Ghost mist was captured coming from laundry room; another photo
(still under evaluation) of more ghost mist in the entry way
4. Red spirit energy captured in the NW bedroom
5. All team members present reported heavy presence in the NE
bedroom along with temperature changes
6. Video captured a very large bright orb streaking through the living
room and also captured small bright orbs during EMF readings in
the living room and NE bedroom
7. EVP captured in NW bedroom of male voice say "Oh-Rayco"; the
name of the wife of the first homesteader was Rachel. Could Rayco
have been a nickname for her?
8. Various unidentified smells throughout the house

Investigation - Daytime - April 21: In an attempt to locate
the cemetery,
investigator Brenda arrived at the property about 3:30pm to
dowse for graves.
1. Dowsing indicated graves located in driveway where they were
standing
2. Further dowsing indicated cemetery located on top of hill with
burials being 7 bodies wide and 9 rows deep; partial row of 5 graves
found at the east boundary of cemetery perimeter
3. Estimation of approximately 55-68 graves on property
4. Gender checks showed both male and female, including children
5. Following grave patterns, dowsing led to house; determined house
was built over cemetery; a couple graves also located under shed
6. It was determined this was a family/neighborhood cemetery based
on the variety of bodies found
7. Owner of property was contacted and informed of cemetery findings

Clearing & Closure
Psychic Reading:
On May 2, 2001, our psychic friend Joyce Morgan, came out to the property to conduct a reading and clearing of the property.
Property - Her reading indicated that there was a cemetery located in the house area but was difficult to detect by her. She felt that it was probably Native-American, black and very old. Burials probably took place around 1800. She saw an Indian decapitated in front yard (this was in a location where high EMF readings were detected during the investigation). Another cemetery was located at rear of property. This area was covered with rose briars. Investigator Brenda dowsed in this area to confirm and found the 2nd cemetery which was the family cemetery, originally established by first settlers. Psychic Joyce also picked up Civil War activity. Indicated that a Union field-hospital and encampment was located near where the shed now sits on the property. She also saw a man that had been stabbed in the side and a hanging. She offered several names which were found to be related to past deed holders.
Interior
Of House - Joyce indicated that the interior of the house was haunted by a heavyset woman with brunette hair. Her name began with an "Ma.." but could not clarify as to the actual name and just called her Maggie at the time. (Name is clarified later per an obit dated Nov. 9, 1911 which you will find a briefing below). Maggie had a hard time walking and became very attached to a rocking chair which brought her much physical comfort. She did not pass over because she was wanting to bring the rocking chair with her and did not know if she could. Was haunting the home because she did not like some of the things that had happened there. During clearing, Maggie asked to bring her chair and was told that it was okay. She kissed the current owner on
the forehead and said goodbye to him and his wife, stopping in front of each to do so. Right after kissing owner on the
head, without him knowing that she had done so, the owner said "God Bless You". Questioning him after the clearing about why he said this, he said that suddenly he just had the feeling that he was suppose to say that. Joyce indicated that he said this right after receiving the kiss.

Dated November 9, 1911 and posted in the local County paper:
Mrs. Mary Jones _____, past 75 yrs. of age, the wife of T J _____, and one of the oldest resident of the county, died at the home in the south part of this city, Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock. Her death follows years of invalidism and is the termination of a serious attack she sustained a month ago, but it was nevertheless unexpected, for it came at a time when her condition was apparently much less dangerous than it had been two weeks before. For twelve years, Mrs. _____ had been a total invalid, eight years of which time she had been compelled to keep to her
chair. The first breakdown in her health came twelve years ago with
chronic rheumatism.
Several times in that dozen years she had sustained attacks from which it was thought that she could not recover, and for days would lie apparently at the point of death;
This last attack came on about a month ago, and for two weeks she had been in a dangerous condition. Then she rallied from the attack, and with the exception of not regaining all of her strength, appeared to be well as usual. During the past two weeks she has been able to sit up each day in her
chair and the morning of her death had sat up for quite awhile. Her son, J F _____ and daughter Mrs. J W _____ of Leavenworth, KS, were with her and until about ten minutes before her death were unable to see that the end was near.......
