Private Home - Case #12

EVP's: 3, one EVP was captured in master bedroom of a male voice saying "I'm going to see you on the way out", another male voice was captured on the 1^st level of the home saying, "I'm not a reflection, I'm a human being".  A woman's or child's voice was captured in the upstairs office but was unintelligible.  

The portion of land that this home sits on was first purchased in 1855 by H.D. and was again sold in 1858 to J.W.L. No information on these first 2 settlers is available.  

In 1863, General Order #11 was issued during the Civil War. All residents of Cass and surrounding counties were ordered to leave their homes and the entire county was burned and looted. There was much suffering during these years and many homeowners never returned to claim the land on which they once lived.  These counties became known as "The Burnt District." It is unknown what may have happened to the family who owned the land prior to Order #11 and no records have been found of the next land-transaction. It's possible that the previous owner may have been a Confederate, if so, the land could have been confiscated by the US Government and later, granted to a Union soldier.  

The next known owner, J.H.L, purchased a farm of 80 acres in 1872, on which the current home now sits. There were 3 homes on the farm, one for him and his wife and the other two for his two sons and their wives. J.H.L was a Union soldier and died of a heart-attack while having a heated argument on his property in 1894. His wife preceded him in death in 1891 and also died at the home. The eldest son of J.H.L died at the age of 26 yrs, the year prior to their move to the farm. After J.H.L.'s death, the land was willed to his sons and remained in the family until 1920.  The family continued to live on the farm until 1926 in one of two remaining homes.  

In 1920, the 80 acre farm and an additional 240 acres was purchased by W.W.H, who had previously maintained a singing career. He often preformed in the operas, including performances with opera diva, Madame Schumann Heinke. After purchasing the property, he pursued a career as a farmer. In 1958, he suffered a paralytic stroke in the home and died a week later in a local hospital.  

In the late 1980's or early 1990's, the land was purchased by a developer and a the farm-land became an established neighborhood. The owners of the home we investigated are the 2^nd family to live in their house. They purchased the house in 1998 at a reduced rate as the previous owner was anxious to make a quick sale. The previous owner is still living and as far as the current owners know, there have been no deaths that have occurred in their current home.

· Female home-owner on knees in son's bedroom closet cleaning and felt eerie cold wind blow up over her. No one there. She was startled.

· Sees shadows out the corner of her eyes all the time. Sees movement out of corner of eyes around mirrors.

· TV in Female homeowner's bedroom goes off on its own for no apparent reason, however the cable box stays on.

· On the 4th of July of 2001, her son had a friend over and he stayed the night.  She had not been able to sleep so she was in the living room lying on the couch at 2 a.m. She heard her sons door open and heard her sons voice say," mom... Mom...MOM". Female homeowner turned down the TV, her son was awake, and she asked, "What?" First there wasn't an answer. Then Female homeowner heard, "Get out of my room, God Damn it! Mom, mom, it calls itself..." Female homeowner could not hear last part, but had strong desire to go up and check on son in his bedroom. Female homeowner called to her son, "What? Who are you talking to?" And the reply was, "You, but you weren't listening." Female homeowner went up and tried to wake her son to see what it calls itself, but her son replied, "Leave me alone, I am trying to sleep." Her son stated he didn't know.  She feels something is around her son and she is apprehensive about that. She is very protective of her children.

· One time in daylight while standing in kitchen, Female homeowner felt like she was being stared at. She looked down hall to her bedroom and saw a white apparition sitting on the edge of her bed.

· Female homeowner was laying on sofa in living room trying to sleep before the children got home from school. She thought she heard someone walk in the front door. Female homeowner was lying on her side, facing the sofa so she partially turned and saw two pale legs walking through the living room. Thinking it was her daughter coming in from school, she rolled back over and said," Just give me 30 minutes to sleep. I have to have some sleep."  Upon waking approximately 30 minutes later she looked at the time to see it was 1:30pm and that the children were not even home from school yet.

· Summer of 2001. She heard footsteps walking up and down the hardwood floors upstairs while she was lying in bed. The footsteps then sounded like they were coming towards her, but nothing transpired. Late at night, 10 pm.

· One time, her daughter came out of the bathroom with a towel on her head and called for her brother. She then asked her mother if her was there. Female homeowner was sitting on the sofa in living room and told her daughter that he wasn't home. Her daughter stated she had heard someone walking around upstairs. Female homeowner assured her daughter that no one was home but the two of them.

· Summer of 2001. Female homeowner was in lying in bed facing her husband (rest of family was asleep), her back facing the bedroom door and almost to sleep. She awoke suddenly and turned to see an apparition leaning over her looking down at her face, just staring. It was tall, thin. Nose was very big and long. Older male. No facial expression. Did not have a lot of head hair. Was dark altogether and full figured. He was solid, couldn't see through him. At first she momentarily thought someone was really standing there. This experience alarmed her.  Tried to scream, but couldn't. She looked back towards her husband, then back over her shoulder again only to see him still leaning over her. She had the feeling he wanted to say something.  She felt like he was studying her. She focused primarily on his face. So thin, reminded her of someone who smoked a lot. A jester came to her mind for some reason. She saw his wrinkles.  At the time of this interview, she couldn't remember if he wore a hat. However at time of experience she felt he did, similar to, but not, a jester hat.

· While standing at the stove one afternoon, alone in the house, she felt as if someone was watching her. She whipped around and looked down the hall that leads to her bedroom.  She saw a female, white, misty apparition move down that hall towards her bedroom. Female homeowner felt like she was young and from the early 1900's. She was transparent.

· 8-7-01 at night, Female homeowner briefly heard a female crying. When she turned down the TV to listen, it stopped.

· 7-4-01, Niece was in bathroom, alone in the house, and as she went to exit bathroom, the door felt like it was being held closed on her and momentarily would not let her out. Niece does not like the house.

· All team members felt a heavy presence throughout the house, mainly in the master bedroom and upstairs.

· A photo showed an unexplained image standing behind the homeowner's niece in the mirror.

An apparition of a young man in a sleeveless black T-shirt captured in the mirror behind niece - there was no one in the home that matched this description - this is also the area in which an EVP was captured stating "I'm not a reflection, I'm a human being." - the time frame when the photo was taken and the time frame of the EVP recording coincide with each other - Prior to the investigation, female owner reports was trying to sleep on the couch thinking she heard the kids come home; partially turning she saw two pale legs walking through the living room
